Dr. Charles E. Blair, TH.D.
Dr. Charles E. Blair (September 12, 1920 to August 20, 2009) was the founder of Calvary Temple in Denver, Colorado, which he built from a congregation of 58 into one of the city's first megachurches. He pioneered radio and television evangelism in Denver and is remembered for his preaching, his humour and his kindness.
Life and ministry
Dr. Blair began at Central Assembly Church of Denver in 1947 as a 26-year-old travelling evangelist. Within seven years the church had become an interdenominational congregation of thousands, and under his leadership Calvary Temple grew into one of the largest non-denominational churches in the United States.
In the later part of his life he devoted much of his time to building churches in an undeveloped area of Ethiopia. In 2003 he launched the Ethiopian Call, a church-planting effort in the western Benishangul-Gumuz region near the Sudan border. The outreach has helped build some 1,350 churches where more than 64,000 adults worship each Sunday.
His book The Man Who Could Do No Wrong recounts his journey from bitter defeat to a rediscovery of the love of God. He donated all royalties from it to Calvary Temple. His wife Betty Blair wrote Goodbye Fear. Both are distributed in Canada by Moriah Publications.
